Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) batch reactor

Description
Simulated emulsion polymerization of styrene-butadiene rubber: 53 batches, nine measured trajectories over 200 samples each, and five final latex quality attributes per batch. Two batches carry a known, deliberately simulated fault.
Data source
An emulsion polymerization of styrene and butadiene in a jacketed batch reactor, simulated from a first-principles model. Each batch runs for 200 samples, over which nine variables are recorded: the styrene and butadiene feed flows, the feed temperature, the reactor, cooling-water and jacket temperatures, the latex density, the conversion and the cumulative energy released. Five quality attributes are measured on the finished latex: composition, particle size, branching, cross-linking and polydispersity. Because the data are simulated, the faults are known. Batch 37 received 30% more organic impurity in its butadiene feed than the normal batches, from the start. Batch 34 received 50% more, from the midpoint of the batch (sample 100). The other 51 batches are normal, which makes the set well suited to building a reference model and testing whether a fault is detected, and how early. The two feed flows and the feed temperature carry only the simulation’s measurement noise, under 2% and 0.1% of their values respectively, so they add little to a model.
